ABOUT OUR CENTER
Oregon State University's Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC) was formed in 1994 when the Southern Oregon Experiment Station was combined with the Jackson County Extension Service Office.
Our faculty and staff help thousands of Jackson County residents find answers and solve problems every year. Ten faculty and two support staff members work in the Extension Unit. Two scientists, working in entomolgy, plant pathology and horticulture, are located in the Research Unit.
Extension Unit

The Extension Unit features an audio visual room, two kitchens, a conference room, a 30 person classroom and a 200-person assembly area. On the grounds, there are demonstration gardens, a greenhouse and an arboretum.
Research Unit

The newly-remodeled research facility has a high technology laboratory, three controlled-atmosphere storage units, two entomological laboratories, and a new library conference room.

Funding
Jackson County partners with our center by providing the land, buildings, building maintenance, office supplies, and clerical support. The federal government, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, supports state and local projects with grants and pays a portion of the statewide program and faculty costs. Other grants and research contracts also support the varied extension and research programs.
Every dollar Jackson County invested in Southern Oregon Research & Extension Center in
2007 was met with another $7.82 was obtained from other sources.
