In Jackson and Josephine counties, local data indicates that over fifty percent of the population will be over age 55 by 2012. Southern Oregon's temperate climate and recreational and cultural opportunities are attracting increasing numbers of recently retired older adults. Jackson is one of six counties in the state that accounts for 60% of people over age 65. Josephine is currently one of three counties with more than 20 percent of its population over age 65. Age-related issues define the future of Southern Oregon.
