September 14, 2013 – 9am-11:00 am – Josephine County Tree Farmer of the Year tour, Wilderville

Free. Non-members welcome. This year’s annual tour visits the property of Harriet and Lary Harris of Wilderville. Their 120-acre property features many of the challenges of working in southern Oregon such as dense brush and steep slopes. Management has included multiple thinning operations, reduction of fire hazard, and improved habitat, while generating lots of firewood. 2013 Land Steward Program - Now accepting applications for fall training

The Land Steward training helps local small-acreage landowners learn about ways to create a healthy environment on their property through site visits, mentoring, and the creation of a personalized action plan for their property. The course targets land owners who want to learn how to balance sustainability with their rural lifestyles. Whether you own a few acres or a few hundred, this award-winning, field-based program will help you manage your natural resources more effectively. Learn more.


Co-sponsored by the Jackson Josephine Small Woodlands Association and the OSU Extension Service, these programs are free or low cost and open to the public. Thursday, September 19, 7 pm. Timber harvesting options for woodland owners.

From tractors with farmi winches to cable logging systems, there are a number harvest systems and types of equipment available. This program will provide an overview the options with a focus on practicality, availability, cost and minimizing damage to the stand.

Harvesting operation tour. A tour of an active harvesting operation on private land in the Ashland area is tentatively planned for a weekday in September or October. Stay tuned for more details.
