Welcome to the Umatilla County Horticulture Extension Service, situated at the northeast tip of Umatilla County in the City of Milton-Freewater, an integral part of the Walla Walla Valley. This magnificent Valley, at the base of the Blue Mountains, spans both Oregon and Washington, and is blessed with a variety of fruit crops, wine grapes and vegetables. The Valley is commonly referred to as a “banana belt” and has a more moderate climate than most of the Pacific Northwest. This means that the area produces superlative fruit and vegetables sooner than the rest of Oregon and Washington, giving it a distinct marketing advantage.
