• Oregon State University – Department of Food Science and Technology Value added services  - Potential contact is Mark Daeschel, 541.737.6519, mark.daeschel@oregonstate.edu - This website offers information on services and training on a variety of value-added ag products, such as dairy and cheese, development of thin protective coatings for perishable fruits and berries, ….  Bottom line:  this is a good site for entrepreneurs to access expertise they might need to develop their product.
• Oregon State University Food Innovation Center, 1207 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 154, Portland, OR 97209, P: 503-872-6680 - $195 consultation fee  - The Food Innovation Center (FIC) Agricultural Experiment Station is located in Portland, OR.  The FIC is a resource for client based Product and Process Development, Packaging Engineering and Shelf Life Studies, and Consumer Sensory Testing.  Research work is conducted to develop innovative Processing and Packaging Technologies. The FIC also engages in scholarly research in Agricultural Economics and Marketing
• US Department of Agriculture County Commodity Estimates – This website shows estimates by county of berries, barley, corn [for grain and silage], dry beans, grass seeds, hay, livestock (including beef and milk cows, & sheep and pigs), mint, oats, potatoes, vegetables, and wheat.  [When I selected “carrots,” the file showed no Walla Walla so does that mean we do not have carrots in the county or that no estimates were supplied?  Of course, for peas Walla Walla was on the list.  But what do these numbers show—only what was estimated (even the historical data) and not the actual production numbers?  Bottom line:  this is a good site for supplying vegetable info provided we think the numbers reflect actuality.]
• Washington State Department of Agriculture - Washington State Food and Agriculture Suppliers (commodity search) – This website lists the suppliers (such as Walla Walla Gardener’s Association) by commodity (no one listed for “green peas” in Walla Walla; Keystone and Gardener’s Association of Walla Walla listed for asparagus) and by location (18 listed for Walla Walla).  Bottom line:  this is a good site for letting entrepreneurs know what the competition is.
