Elgin SNACZ Patrol

Peer Outreach Event

For their second outreach project to promote eating healthy snacks, the Elgin SNACZ Patrol held a class competition to see which class could come up with the best healthy snack recipe.  The recipe had to be low in fat, sugar, and sodium and include fruits or vegetables.  The following is a summary of the clubs activity written by the club members:

HEALTHY SNACZ 4-H CLUB AT HOMECOMING

It was the night of the Elgin High School Homecoming game.  We put up our table, ready to serve the snacks we made together.  All of the snacks that we brought were healthy snacks.  Each snack made was from a recipe submitted by different grades in our school, from a “Healthy Snack” contest held by our SNACZ 4-H Club.  The snacks had to use fruits and vegetables as a main ingredient and be low in fat and sugar.

Whenever someone came to our booth they would vote on their favorite snack.  Many people came to our booth and all of them loved our healthy snacks.  In fact we handed out almost all of our snacks!

As we cleaned up together everyone was saying how much fun they had.  We had a bundle of fun, and we all worked hard.  We are very proud of what we accomplished.  Mrs. Grandeen, the nursing students and Mrs. Herron were very helpful.

Since everyone voted on their favorite snack we had a winner.  After counting the votes we discovered that the winner was the 4th grader’s “Fruit Parfait” recipe.

We hope to have such a great experience next time.
