PEER OUTREACH ACTIVITY
Healthy SNACZ Fair
"Top 10 Reasons to Choose Fruits & Veggies for Snacks" booth
For their third peer outreach project of the year, members of the Imbler Sugar Stoppers created a booth to display at the Healthy SNACZ Fair with the help from OHSU RN-BS student Elizabeth Sieders, RN.
The Healthy SNACZ fair featured five booths, one from each SNACZ 4-H group, each with a different nutrition education message. The fair was held at each clubs elementary school (Union, Cove, North Powder, Elgin, and Imbler) and was toured by classes 4-8th as well as being open to the public.
Featured at the Imbler booth was “Top 10 Reasons to Choose Fruits & Veggies for Snacks”. Children participated in a game placing the top 10 reasons in order of priority to them, earning a chance to win prizes for matching answers to answers found online. Pictures of creative snack ideas with fruit were displayed as well as a chance to test their knowledge at how many servings of fruits and veggies should they consume a day. The popular attraction at the booth were the talking fruits and vegetables designed, by the 4-H members, who delivered a comical lecture on why fruits and veggies were the right choice.
Not only did the group learn a lot through the process of brainstorming and designing a booth, they did an excellent job educating their peers on the importance healthy eating choices.
