Union County Extension Service is your local link to the University for accessing non-formal, research-based educational opportunities that enrich the lives of Oregonians and the vitality of their communities. OSU Extension Faculty and Staff, housed in all of Oregon's 36 counties, work side-by-side with others in our communities to address local issues and concerns.
In Union County these include:
- A 4-H Youth Development Program that is nationally recognized for helping youth develop life skills that will make them productive members of society.
- An Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Program that is helping crop and livestock producers develop systems that improve air and water quality, in addition to, integrating various techniques to manage pests.
- A Family & Community Health Program working to address nutrition, food safety and food security among food stamp eligible audiences through OFNP (Oregon Family Nutrition Program). In addition, providing community education in program areas of health, nutrition and physical activity.
- A Forestry & Natural Resources Program that provides science based information to family forest owners and others about all aspects of forestry. Educational programs are designed to meet local needs and help people achieve their unique objectives for the sustainable management of their property.
- A volunteer-based Master Gardener Program that educates local gardeners about home horticulture practices and provides an opportunity to contribute to the community.
