Livestock Health and Management

  • Beef
  • Cattle

Cattle and horses constitute livestock herds on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation.  OSU works with land managers and tribal livestock owners to deliver research based information on livestock health and management.  Annual vaccination clinics for cattle and horses are offered in partnership with USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS)

A mineral supplementation program has been promoted throughout the reservation.  Portable mineral feeders were built through Western SARE funds and loose salt supplement is provided to range livestock.  Mineral supplementation is essential for range livestock in this region as selenium, a micromineral is deficient in the soil
