The Wasco County 4-H program offers a variety of day and residential camps and topic specific clinics and trainings.

Summer Day Camps

Several summer day camps are sponsored by the OSU Wasco County 4-H Youth Development program. The grades listed are the grades the child will enter in the fall. Partial scholarships are available. Full Summer Program Guide includes Parks and Rec., 4-H and more.

Picture Perfect: July 1-2; Grades 4-8; CGCC Rm 2.273; 9am - 3pm; $20

Campers will be guided by a photographer as they explore the amazing features of their cameras.  Snap action shots of a skateboarding competition, capture the beauty of the landscape and see just how detailed we can make a blade a grass. Campers will manipulate photos using software to make their photos picture perfect! 

Participants are encouraged to bring their personal cameras.  4-H cameras are available for use, but limited. Early bird registration deadline: June 21st

Dice, Slice, Simmer & Shred: July 8-9; Grades 4-8; St. Paul's Episcopal Church; 9am - 3pm; $20

Campers will be challenged to create delicious meals after learning culinary skills that will last a lifetime.  Using food grown in the Gorge, we will make dishes that are sure to impress!  As scientists in the kitchen, campers will learn the tricks that make a meal perfect. Campers will leave with recipes that are sure to become family favorites. Early bird registration deadline: June 28^th

Pioneer Camp: July 15-17; Grades 3-5; Fort Dalles Museum; 9am - noon; $20

Go back in time! Campers will live, work and play in a time before technology. How did children live? What did they do without computers? What did they do for fun? During this camp, you will be transported back in time and live the life of a Pioneer child. Yes, life was fun! Come and experience it! Early bird registration deadline: July 5th

Robotics and More: July 15-17; Grades 4-8; CGCC Cafeteria; 9am - noon; $15

Have you always wanted to build your own robot or have you built your own robot but want to explore more? Do you have a burning curiosity for technology? This camp includes designing, building and programming a Lego^TM Mindstorm robot to complete certain tasks and to compete in a ‘Battle of the Bots’. Early bird Registration deadline: July 5^th.

Growing Art: July 22-23; Grades 4-8; The Dalles Imagination Garden; 9am-noon; $20

A garden is place for growing food and art! We will be creating fun art for the garden and making the garden an art gallery. Campers will create garden art with recycled and construction materials while creating a space that the whole family can enjoy. Early bird registration deadline: July 12th.

Grow It, Eat It, Be Healthy!: July 23-26 & July 30 - August 2; Grades 3-5; Chenowith Elementary; 9am - noon; $25/week

You can do it! In this camp you will learn to grow your own fruits and vegetables, use them in dishes you prepare yourself and eat what you prepare all while learning about living a health and active life. You will: Participate in a variety of gardening activities;Prepare food while following yummy recipes;Make your own exercise equipment including hoola hoops;Play a variety of active games;Create fun crafts. Wind, Water, Sun and S’Mores: July 24-25; Grades 4-8; CGCC Cafeteria; 9am - noon; $10

Water, wind and sun all create energy – but how do we harness and transform that energy into electricity? Why is energy created from natural, renewable sources important to the earth and our environment? Explore wind, hydro and solar energy by constructing your own wind turbine, solar oven for S’mores and more! Early bird registration deadline: July 12^th.

Fish On!!: July 29-31; Grades 4-8; CGCC Cafeteria and field trip; 9am - noon; $15                   

Let’s go fishing! Want to learn? Want to improve on your skills? Then this camp is for you! You will learn different types of knots, how to angle with various types of bait and learn about different fish species with hands-on activities. This camp includes a fishing field trip to Taylor Lake on July 31^st. Space is limited so register early! Early bird registration deadline: July 19^th.

Goonie’s Scavenger Adventure: August 7; Grades 3-8; 9am-noon; $10 

Have you ever watched the movie Goonies? Did you ever want to be a Pirate or just find treasure? Well, then you need to come to this camp! You will take a great adventure by following clues and a map to get to your treasure chest! Early bird registration deadline: July 26^th.

Residential Camps

4-H Camp Morrow is for youth in grades 4-6. It is a 4 day, 3 night camp held at Camp Morrow on the Pine Hollow Reservoir near Wamic, OR the third week of June. 2013 dates are June 19-22.

Both residential camps require the Official 4-H Health/Code of Conduct forms to accompany the registration form and payment.

Partial scholarships are available.

4-H Tri-County Leadership Camp is for youth in grades 7-12. It is a 3 day, 2 night camp held at Camp Morrow on the Pine Hollow Reservoir near Wamic each Spring. Youth will get the camp experience of campfire, mess hall traditions, and social events while learning leadership, citizenship and civic engagement skills. 2013 dates are April 5-7.

Camp Counselor Program

Trained Teen Counselors are needed for all camps. The Columbia Gorge Camp Counselor Training Program is designed to train older youth to serve as camp counselors at any youth camp, including 4-H Camp Morrow. Though counselors need to be high-school aged, youth in grades 7 and up from Sherman, Hood River and Wasco County are invited to attend the trainings. Counselors chosen for 4-H Camp will meet 5/5 and 6/2 & 18.

Topic Specific Trainings and Events

The Babysitting Training is designed for youth in grades 6 and up to gain the knowledge and skills needed to be successful babysitters. Lessons include first aid and safety, nutrition and preparing food, playing with children of all ages, and running a babysitting business.
