The Wasco County 4-H program offers several programs to enrich the classroom and afterschool time learning. Programs include research-based curriculum and teaching materials that align with Oregon State Standards and Benchmarks. 

In-School Enrichment Programs

The 4-H Incredible Egg integrates concepts of chick embryology into easy-to-use math, science, and language arts lesson plans with the help of the Incredible Egg curriculum. Teachers hatch eggs in their classroom, too!

Through 4-H Fish Stewards, student raise and hatch native fish in their classroom while developing science, math skills and the cultural importance of salmon to our region.

4-H Wildlife Stewards promote science learning among youth and create sustainable wildlife habitat education sites on school grounds by inspiring, educating, and connecting communities, schools, and natural resource organizations.

4-H Sustainable Schools program promotes science learning among youth while creating school gardens where youth plant, raise, and harvest vegetables and fruits for class use.

Each spring, 4-H staff visit elementary classrooms with activities from Ag in the Classroom.

Youth in grades 2-5 attending Chenowith Elementary are able to participate in the Junior Master Gardener program each spring. Children learn entomology, vermiculture, composting and plant science/gardening through science inquiry activities, some of which are held at The Dalles Imagination Garden (The DIG).

Every October during National 4-H Week, Wasco County 4-H participates in the 4-H National Youth Science Day. 4-H staff visit middle school science classes with the equipment and supplies needed for youth to complete the science inquiry activity.

After-School Programs

Wasco County 4-H offers four afterschool opportunities for youth.

• Junior Tech Wizards is for children in grades K-3. The children explore Lego™Robotics and other 4-H project areas.

• Rovology is for youth in grades 4-12. The learning focus is on marine biology, technology, and related careers. Youth build remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) which are  submersible robots.

• Dufur Tech and More is for youth in grade 3-8. Members explore Lego™Robotics, ROVs and other technology.

• Youth in grades 4-8 explore Lego™Robotics, GameMakers Studio™, and other technology topics as a member of the 4-H TDMS Afterschool Robotics Club.
