ICYI Camp 2014- Working with the USFS in the Siuslaw National Forest and Drift Creek Wilderness.
ICYI engages youth in out-of-school settings to gain knowledge and experience in the natural resources field. During the school year, students meet weekly with their mentors as part of a club program and have the opportunity each month to participate in service learning activities throughout the Metro region. Mentors work with students to introduce them to new topics in natural resources, career and college opportunities, and local, regional, and national agencies that work in the environmental field. During the summer months, youth have the opportunity to participate in summer camps, internships, and to work with program staff to mentor younger youth.
Throughout the year, youth meet with different professionals in the private and public sector to learn about careers. Field trips to different sites, both local and regional, introduce youth to new place that they can return to with their families and friends. Each summer a year-end celebration is held for ICYI participants, their families, community members, and program partners.
