How Do I Get Involved With 4-H As A Volunteer 4-H Club

Volunteer Mentor?

You must complete all 4 steps below before you can enroll in 4-H as a club volunteer mentor.

Step 1

Complete a Volunteer Service Application:

•  All 4-H leader-mentors need to have this application on file with the 4-H office. References will be checked from the information provided on your application (you must provide 3 references with complete addresses and phone numbers that are not family members/relatives or do not live with you).

•  Another part of the application process is a criminal background check which is conducted by Oregon State University Human Resources Department in cooperation with the Oregon State Police and FBI.  The form will be sent to you, once we receive your application.

• A protected environment for youth to grow and excel in is an important aspect.  All 4-H leader-mentors need to read the publication "For the Well-being of Youth and Adults," fill out the questionnaire, and return it to the Extension office.

* Publication: "For The Well-being of Youth and Adults" *

Please include your name and mailing address in your email so we can mail the application and questionnaire forms to you.

Step 2

Attend New Mentor Orientation Sessions A and B:

The trainings are held in the fall and winter each year

* Click here to download a Training Schedule & Map/Directions *

•  Call (503) 725-2110 at least one week prior to the training session to sign up for training Session A and Session B.  If you leave a voicemail, please leave your name, address, and phone number, and we will sign you up for the trainings.

Step 3

Receive a 4-H Congratulations Letter in the mail:

•  Once steps 1 and 2 above are completed, and all three of your references and the 4-H faculty have provided a positive reference on your behalf to our office, you will receive a letter from the Washington County 4-H OSU Extension Office officially welcoming you as a 4-H Volunteer Mentor.

Step 4

Enrolling your Club:

Have you completed Steps 1, 2, and 3?

If yes, you can now proceed to enroll your club!

Call (503) 725-2110 to request a club enrollment packet if you didn't receive one with your Congratulations Letter.

Welcome to 4-H!
