Washington County Considers Public Comment
for Area 93 Planning

Washington County’s Long Range Planning assumed community planning responsibilities for Area 93 when it became the newest part of Washington County in January 2014. County staff hosted an open house and created an online virtual open house to gather community input about the Multnomah County 2009 Area 93 Concept Plan which was developed for the area prior to the annexation.




Cedar Hills Park Expansion

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has purchased about 1.7 acres from the Beaverton School District. The property on the west side of William Walker Elementary School at 11940 SW Lynnfield Lane is adjacent to the park and will be used to expand and improve the park. THPRD and school district leaders signed an intergovernmental agreement last year that addresses shared access, shared parking and other issues besides the property sale. THPRD’s plan includes two full-size, multipurpose, synthetic turf sports fields with lights; a splash pad water play area; play equipment; permanent restrooms; a picnic area; walking path; and a community garden. Redevelopment will be funded by THPRD’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2016 and finish by spring 2017.



Following the public hearing on June 17th, the Washington County Board of Commissioners decided to refer a proposed countywide vehicle registration fee to the voters in November.

The County is considering a $30 per year fee on vehicles owned by residents and businesses. A $17 per year fee would apply to motorcycles/mopeds. Government, school, farm, antique, special interest and recreational vehicles, in addition to vehicles owned by disabled veterans would be exempt. If approved by the voters, 60 percent of the funds would be allocated to the county for roads it maintains and 40 percent to cities for use on roads they maintain. The ordinance will also be amended to provide greater clarity on how the funds will be used if the voters approve the fee.

2035 Transportation System Plan Update
The Transportation System Plan identifies transportation systems and outlines policies and strategies necessary to meet existing and future travel needs. Land Use Ordinance No. 783 was filed on May 16th which updates the plan. Public testimony can be presented at the July 2nd Planning Commission Hearing and the Board of County Commissioners Hearing tentatively scheduled for August 5th.
