Area 93 Community Planning Open House - October 21

Washington County’s Department of Land Use & Transportation will host an Area 93 Community Planning public event on October 21st, in the Event Center (Building 9) at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus, 17705 NW Springville Rd., Portland. A presentation at 5:30 pm will provide an overview of the Area 93 community planning efforts to date, including
a new wetland and natural resource inventory, and draft Community Plan alternatives.





Cedar Hills Park Expansion

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has purchased about 1.7 acres from the Beaverton School District. The property on the west side of William Walker Elementary School at 11940 SW Lynnfield Lane is adjacent to the park and will be used to expand and improve the park. THPRD and school district leaders signed an intergovernmental agreement last year that addresses shared access, shared parking and other issues besides the property sale. THPRD’s plan includes two full-size, multipurpose, synthetic turf sports fields with lights; a splash pad water play area; play equipment; permanent restrooms; a picnic area; walking path; and a community garden. Redevelopment will be funded by THPRD’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2016 and finish by spring 2017.



Following the public hearing on June 17th, the Washington County Board of Commissioners decided to refer a proposed countywide vehicle registration fee to the voters in November.

The County is considering a $30 per year fee on vehicles owned by residents and businesses. A $17 per year fee would apply to motorcycles/mopeds. Government, school, farm, antique, special interest and recreational vehicles, in addition to vehicles owned by disabled veterans would be exempt. If approved by the voters, 60 percent of the funds would be allocated to the county for roads it maintains and 40 percent to cities for use on roads they maintain. The ordinance will also be amended to provide greater clarity on how the funds will be used if the voters approve the fee.
