Washington County Forest Land Facts

Washington County forest land facts:

About half of Washington County is forest land. Most of these forested 234,000 acres lie in the western half of the county. Ownership patterns are diverse, with over 1,700 separate owners. About one-third of the forest land acres are owned by forest industries, and another third are owned by private woodland owners. The remaining acres are owned by county, state, and federal government, with part of the famous Tillamook burn along the western fringe.

Washington County ranks sixth state wide as far as Christmas tree harvests. Yearly harvests are valued at over $2.5 million.

How does Extension fit in?

Our job is to provide woodland owners and Christmas tree growers with information to help make informed management decisions. Classes, publications, newsletters, and local applied research plots are all part of this effort.

In addition, forestry volunteers (called Master Woodland Managers) may be available for help and on-site visits.
