Presented by Jennifer Nelson
Program Manager, Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District
Did you know our water quality is getting better all the time? Jennifer will help us understand how healthy streamside buffers help protect water quality downstream, provide wildlife habitat, and even support pollinators. She will update us on what the district has accomplished for you through their restoration program and share some ways in which you can attract and help pollinators like bees at your property.
Presented by Victoria Lowe
Member of Fernhill Wetlands Council and instigator of Forest Grove’s Sustainability Committee
If you have driven by the Fernhill Wetlands since May, you have seen excavators and earth movers at work, transforming 90 acres of former sewage lagoons into natural treatment wetlands. The area was hydro-seeded and 750,000 more native plants were installed. Clean Water Services has designed the project as a showcase for innovative water treatment that also will enhance habitat greatly. Victoria will talk about these changes and its anticipated impacts on the region.
Presented by Robert Falconer
Master Gardener with OSU Extenstion Service Washington County
Robert will provide information about the Gardening with Bees program. We will also have information for you to take home from Metro on Natural Gardening as well as brochures from the Xerces Society on “Establishing Pollinator Meadows from Seed”. Q&A. We will all go home with more ideas of how we can protect honey bees.
