The Western Extension Directors Association (WEDA) functions as the regional link to the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP), and the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and other agencies and groups of interest to Extension in the Western region.

WEDA is governed by Rules of Operation and a committee structure that includes an Executive Committee, three standing committees, and a number of ad-hoc task forces and committees appointed as needed. WEDA appoints liaisons to a number of National and Regional committees that advance the program and operational goals of WEDA and the National Extension System.

WEDA contracts for services of an Executive Director to assist with WEDA business and to help carry out multi-state, regional and WEDA program initiatives.
