Conferences
Many 4-H conferences are held at the 4-H Center near Salem, Oregon.
4-H provides older youth with several opportunities to grow in citizenship, leadership, and independence through the conferences described below:
Western Oregon Retreat Leadership Development (4-H WORLD) is held each winter at the Oregon 4-H Center for youth in grades 8-12. This retreat is a leadership camp planned by youth for youth and costs about $60.
Know Your Government Conference is a three day spring event designed to give 4-H members in grades 8-12 the opportunity to learn about Oregon's legislative system. Youth lodge at the Phoenix Grand Hotel and go to the State Capitol for mock legislative session to learn more about the three branches of government, meet with elected officials, and learn the process of how bills become law. Registration costs are around $130.00
OSU 4-H Summer Conference is hosted the last week of June by Oregon State University for youth completing grades 7-12. Students attend a wide range of exciting classes taught by OSU faculty and other community volunteers. While lodging in OSU dormitories, youth have an opportunity to get a preview of college life, learn independence, examine career possibilities, make friends, learn new skills, and have fun. This event cost around $200.
