Conferences

4-H provides older youth with several opportunities to grow in citizenship, leadership, and independence through the conferences described below:

Western Oregon Retreat Leadership Development (4-H WORLD) is held each winter at the Oregon 4-H Center for youth in grades 8-12.  This retreat is a leadership camp planned by youth for youth and costs about $60.  Learn more about the 4-H Center near Salem, Oregon.

Activate Oregon!  Youth Voice and Youth Action Conference is a three day spring event designed to give 4-H members in grades 8-12 the opportunity to learn about Oregon's system of government at a local and state level.  Youth learn about local community functions and ways young people can get more involved.  In odd number years, the conference is held at the State Capitol where youth participate in a mock legislative session to learn more about the three branches of government, meet with elected officials, and learn the process of how bills become law.  In even years, youth explore other levels of government and community engagement opportunities. Registration costs are around $155.00

Oregon State University 4-H Summer Conference is hosted the last week of June on the campus of Oregon State University for youth completing grades 7-12. Students attend a wide range of exciting classes taught by Oregon State University faculty and other community volunteers.  While lodging in Oregon State University dormitories, youth have an opportunity to get a preview of college life, learn independence, examine career possibilities, make friends, learn new skills, and have fun. This event costs around $200.
