Blue Green Algae Notice - June 26, 2017

Check large water tanks and especially ponds as the weather warms and dries.  A Lake County producer with livestock that water from a moderate size reservoir on his property has faced a significant Blue Green algae bloom in this water body. Water samples and rumen content samples have been sent for analysis to confirm but all signs are pointing to the algae toxin as the culprit.  The suspected toxin produced in this bloom has killed 28 head of cattle that had access to this water. The cattle were moved when the issue was discovered but exposure to the toxin can result in death up to 48 hours following exposure.
