PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Extension Horticulturist, Oregon State University Extension Service, McMinnville, Oregon, 1986-present. Provide leadership for educational programs in the commercial production and marketing of tree fruits and nuts. Work closely as an advisor with applicable grower organizations and commodity commissions. Perform practical on-farm research for the orchard industries that I serve. Provide training in home orchards for the OSU Master Gardener program in several Oregon counties.

Extension Horticulturist, OSU Extension Service, Roseburg, Oregon, 1983-1986. Provide leadership for education programs in the commercial production and marketing of horticultural crops. Also organized, trained, and supervised Douglas County's first OSU Master Gardener program.

Assistant to the IPM Specialist, OSU, Extension Entomology, April-October 1983. Helped develop and implement the Integrated Pest Management program for hazelnuts in the Willamette Valley. Duties included quantifying hazelnut pest populations in cooperators' orchards through the use of pheromone trapping and orchard inspection techniques.

Research Assistant, Oregon State University, North Willamette Experiment Station, June-October 1981 and June-October 1982. Assisted with field research trials on small fruits (strawberries, caneberries, blueberries, and grapes). Supervised the harvest operations of field plots, recorded accurate yield data. Performed many of the cultural practices necessary for growing small fruit crops.

Small-scale Farming Extension Assistant, Washington State University Cooperative Extension, Vancouver, WA, October 1977-October 1978. Organized and implemented an educational program designed to meet the expressed needs of small farmers in Clark County, Washington. Organized workshops, seminars, and on-farm demonstrations of small farm skills. Duties included authorship of a weekly newspaper column on small farm topics, problem-solving consultation via on-farm visits, telephone and in-office visits by clientele.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

As an OSU Extension Horticulturist specializing in tree fruit and nut production in the Willamette Valley in Oregon I am is responsible for a six county geographic area and have 21 years of experience at OSU.I have worked internationally eight times to date, and received an International Service Award in 2003 from Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) Extension Professionals Association. My international work experience includes serving as a Volunteer Technical Expert for Farmer to Farmer Projects in India with Winrock International in 2000 and 2002 on tree fruit and nut production projects, and with ACDI/VOCA in Cape Verde, Africa in 2003 on marketing fruits and vegetables. I currently serve on the ESP national committee for Global Relations.

Department of Horticulture: Department Head Search and Screening Committee for the 1993, Promotion and Tenure Sub-Committee 2000 to present.

OSU College of Agricultural Sciences: Co-chair of the Tree Fruit and Nut Working Group, 1996 to present. Ex-officio member on the hazelnuts and sweet cherry commodity commissions, 1986 to present.
