Establishing and Maintaining your Forest from Planting to Thinning
Join us for a field workshop covering the key steps and challenges involved in establishing and maintaining young forests, including:
- Procuring seedlings or growing your own
- Site preparation and planting
- Controlling weeds
- Thinning young stands
- Using small scale harvesting machines and other equipment for small woodlands
Learn from host Mike Matthews, OSU Extension Forester Glenn Ahrens, and the shared experiences of participants. As a Master Woodland Manager volunteer for OSU since 2000, Mike Matthews helps fellow woodland owners by sharing his knowledge and experience from both his OSU training and his personal experience over 25 years managing 50 acres of woodland east of Salem. Mike uses specialized small scale harvesting equipment for thinning his young stands.
The fee is $15.00 and registration is required. Directions will be emailed to registrants.
