Join us for a Tree School Field Day at Hopkins Demonstration Forest! The day will include a series of field classes, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to choose from. The wide variety of forest types and demonstration areas across the 140 acres at Hopkins provide diverse educational opportu­nities. Please note the course lineup may change prior to the Tree School Field Day.

Likely topics include:

  • tree thinning and pruning
  • logging with a tractor and winch
  • masticator and fuels reduction
  • ponds for wildlife habitat
  • log merchandising and scaling
  • introduction to birds
  • reforestation
  • uneven-aged forest management
  • wildfire defensible space
  • sawmill demonstration
  • bigleaf maple tapping
  • density management

A schedule and map will be provided to registered attendees the day of the event. There will be no special youth programming, but those 16 - 17 are welcome to join at a discounted rate. If you need to bring a youth under the age of 16, please contact Jean at 503-655-8631.

Registration is required for all in attendance, please note that Hopkins Demonstration Forest will be closed to the public during this event.
