University of Idaho and Oregon State University Extension offer Preserve @ Home-Oregon to teach adults how to safely preserve a variety of food products. Participants learn how to produce high quality preserved foods and the science behind food preservation and food safety.
Anyone with an interest in food preservation and food safety can enroll in Preserve @ Home. Individuals with little or no previous food preservation experience are welcome.
Students can progress through weekly lessons at their own pace or at a time convenient to them. The first lesson will be released on January 14 for viewing and interaction. An online chat session will be held each Thursday at 1:00 PM, beginning on January 21.
The virtual Preserve-along through Zoom will give Oregon participants an opportunity to view and/or practice at home the operation of pressure and water-bath canners. Participants will receive a grocery and equipment list so they can practice and interact while educators demonstrate. Those who prefer to view only, are welcome to relax and ask questions, too. The virtual Preserve-along will be on Saturday, February 27, 2021. A link will be sent to participants after the February 25 chat session.
