Recently observed extremes of hot drought, extreme rainfall, and tree mortality due to climate stress raise increasing questions about how to manage Oregon forests with climate change and climate extremes in mind. This online presentation and discussion session led by OSU Extension Forester Glenn Ahrens will:

  • Review the findings of our recent Science-Extension Exchange that explored the state of knowledge about options for managing forests in a changing climate.
  • Discuss guidance for forest management based on current knowledge and uncertainty.
  • Gather your input on practical considerations and needs to guide further development of educational and technical assistance for landowners and land managers.

Extension foresters surveyed key informants from woodland owner and forestry professional communities about their questions and concerns. Results of this were combined with input from Extension agents across Oregon on what they are observing in their local forestry communities. A series of Science Extension Exchange meetings were held to address these questions and develop practical guidance based on current knowledge. This online session will discuss the results and seek further input from landowners and land managers.
