Left-out leftovers, leave them?


Oh, boy. this sounds like an interesting conversation first thing in the morning.

I spoke to a ranch dressing manufacturer and their recommendation was that if the dressing was out less than 24 hours, it should be fine. Commercial salad dressings are highly acidified, which would prevent or greatly slow bacterial growth. You may see some change in texture.

The pizza is another story and more difficult to give a definite answer.

There are many variables. Proteins (meats and cheeses) support bacterial growth. The bacteria and toxins are not always destroyed by reheating. Our rule of thumb is that perishable food not be at room temperature more than 3-4 hours.

We would recommend that the pizza be discarded.
