What kind of live Christmas tree can survive in Central Oregon?

A:

Not sure about what species of live Christmas trees are available in your area. Ponderoas pine is seldom grown as a Christmas tree, but you may be able to find a potted tree and Ponderosa is native to Sisters. I assume you will be able to provide some water to the tree until it is established.

My suggestions of species (in order of anticipated survival) would be-

  1. Grand fir
  2. Nordmann or Turkish fir
  3. Douglas-fir
