Should my garlic be growing?

We planted our garlic for the first time last month. Should it already be growing?

Yes, garlic is supposed to start growing in the warmer soil temperatures of autumn. Plant it from late September through the month of October. It will continue to slowly grow all winter. It fares well all through freezes then puts on growth spurts in spring as the days lengthen. This Washington State University Extension publication gives garlic cultural information for Oregon and Washington.
