Private forest conservation, stewardship, and management in Southwest Oregon includes a range of opportunities and challenges. Join our evening Zoom presentation, which will include an overview of the Mount Ashland Demonstration Forest and its management plan, as well as a brief introduction to Pacific Forest Trust and its work in the region.
In the field class, join staff from the Pacific Forest Trust at the Mount Ashland Demonstration Forest to learn about a young regenerating mixed-conifer forest and the initial implementation of a comprehensive management plan including small-tree thinning and use of prescribed fire to promote climate resilience and habitat connectivity. Fire and thinning will be used to reduce young conifer density while retaining native shrubs, hardwoods, large downed wood, snags, and special habitats, including wet and dry meadows. We will discuss restoration treatment design and wildlife-habitat best management practices.
This class will be offered in two parts: Zoom presentation, Nov 6, 6-7:30 pm, and a visit to the Mount Ashland Demonstration Forest, Nov 8, 9 am-12 pm.
