If you are not confident with pruning, this class can help. Pruning becomes easy if you understand two things: how plants respond to cuts and the ideal shape for trees and shrubs.

To begin this session, we will review how to give ornamental trees a strong framework to better withstand wind, snow, ice and heat. We will discuss components of a strong framework: branch placement and distribution, crotch angle, aspect ratio, taper and root architecture – all contributing to greater resilience. Learn the proper use of heading, removal and reduction cuts for desired results, while minimizing damage to the tree.

Next, we will review essential tips for pruning fruit trees, including the location of fruits and what age of wood is productive. We will wrap up with tips for pruning ornamental shrubs. Soon you will feel at ease with making cuts for the right reason, at the right time, and at the right location on the plant.
