Home Gardener Tool Care Workshop
The Central Gorge Master Gardeners are hosting a tool care workshop on Saturday, September 15th from 9am-noon. We’re heading into the time of year when gardeners get busy preparing for the change of seasons, the end of harvest, planting bulbs for spring, and prepping the soil for winter. A last item, often neglected, are the tools which ease our work. Most tools end up dry, rusty, dull and caked in soil shoved into storage for the winter. With just a few simple thoughtful steps, your tools can be sharp, smooth and operating as they should next spring for all your gardening projects! Bring your pruners, loppers, shovels, or hoes and we’ll show you how to clean, disinfect, sharpen, oil, lubricate and care for your tools.
Master Gardeners will be on hand to guide you through how to properly clean, disinfect and sharpen your tools and can answer basic home garden tool questions. Some tools need more than basic hand sharpening so Kevin Bauc, of Grindstone - Knife & Tool Sharpening will be on site to sharpen tools you bring from 9am-noon. He is accepting donations for each tool he sharpens. He’ll accept one tool per person and if there’s time, will do more.
Hood River Supply is offering freebies for the home gardener.
So come on out and learn a few simple tricks to keep your tools sharp, clean and splinter free!
