A selection of the 2024 Master Gardener classes will be open to the public - that schedule will be available in January 2024

All classes take place at the OSU Extension building, 10507 N McAlister Rd.

For an idea of what might be available. this is the 2023 class schedule:

  • Botany Basics February 21, 5:30-8:30 pm, $10
    Deepen your knowledge of how plants work to become a better gardener! With Botany professor, Karen Antell, presenting.
  • Understanding Pesticides March 14, 5:30-8:30, pm $10
    Learn how and when to use pesticides for maximum safety and effectiveness. With OSU Agronomist, Darrin Walenta, presenting.
  • Soil School! March 18, 9am-4pm, $25 (lunch included!)
    This all-day workshop is designed to demystify soil health & home composting, helping you increase your garden's yields, reduce weed pressure, & improve plant health. With OSU soils and home composting expert, Linda Brewer, presenting. Pre-register by March 13.
  • Trees & Shrubs April 4, 5:30-8:30 pm, $10
    Learn about maintaining healthy trees and shrubs in your landscape with the City of La Grande's Urban Forester, Teresa Gustafson.
  • Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop April 8, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, $15
    Gain practical skills for maintaining healthy & productive backyard fruit trees. Workshop will take place both inside and outside. Bring sack lunch & dress for the weather.
  • First Foods of the Blue Mountains April 18, 6:00-8:00 pm, $10
    Join Naknuwithlama Tiichamna / Caretakers of the Land for a discussion about indigenous perspectives on first foods & land stewardship in the Blue Mountains.
  • Firewise Gardening May 2, 5:30-8:30 pm, $10
    Learn how proper landscape maintenance and plant selection can protect your home from the threat of wildfire with OSU Fire Specialist, John Rizza.
