Agricultural films and fabrics that exclude light from the ground surface (occultation) can be used to eliminate weed infestation and promote soil health without the use of tillage or herbicides. Using translucent films to concentrate heat and limit evaporation (solarization) can be effective in warming the soil for early planting, sterilizing the soil, or killing vegetation with unusually high temperatures. This class will describe when and how to use each of these techniques, identify their strengths and shortcomings, demonstrate their results, and provide direction regarding timing and duration. Workshop via Zoom!
