Restoring Riparian Areas: Beginner Level

This class will cover basic steps involved with successful riparian tree and shrub planting as might be done on the open land of small farms or rural homesteads in the Willamette Valley or its foothills. Establishing trees and shrubs in riparian areas (near streams) poses significant challenges. The goal of this class is to improve your chances of success by combining traditional research-based reforestation techniques with the lessons learned from recent riparian plantings across western Oregon. Key steps to be covered include understanding your objectives, site assessment, and design, site preparation, species typically planted, post-planting maintenance, and sources for assistance.
