Interested in becoming a Master Gardener?

Master Gardeners receive comprehensive, university-level gardening education, and serve as community garden educators. When you become a Master Gardener, you become a vital community volunteer! Most training to become a Master Gardener is a mix of online and in-person workshops. You join the community of ongoing learners working together to grow Oregon’s gardeners.

Master Gardener volunteer training is conducted by local county OSU Extension offices, with support and guidance by the statewide office. Master Gardener trainees will be able to access online classes and participate in local, in-person workshops. Fees for the training program have been reduced, and many local Master Gardener Associations are making scholarships available to partially cover the costs of training. More flexible options for meeting volunteer service requirements are also available in 2022.

Maybe you’re interested in online university level short courses on specific garden topics. These year-round short courses are taught by OSU faculty and you can gain immediately applicable skills in gardening.

Maybe you’re not ready for a comprehensive gardening course and are more interested in specific garden topics? Master Gardeners offer many types of education for the public both at the county and state level. Build your garden knowledge with free or low-cost webinars, workshops and more.

Maybe you’re interested in learning other skills, like preserving food, raising animals, small farming or community science? OSU Extension has many programs to explore.
