This class is a non-technical introduction to plant identification. It focuses on a deep appreciation for the beauty and diversity of plants, and all that they offer us. We’ll learn about the parts of plants and how they can be used to easily identify common plant families. Ruby will teach us how to use field guides and a dichotomous key. She will demystify those crazy Latin names. We’ll go on a ramble around the campus and use our new found skills to look at plants and learn more about them. In addition to identification, we’ll get smatterings of ethnobotany, pollination ecology, and wild plant usage. Let yourself be amazed and surprised! Bring a hand lens, if you have one.
