'Get Yer Goat' -Goat Education Day
Popularly known as "Get Yer Goat", this annual education day is widely attended by both beginner and experienced goat owners. Dairy goats are popular for their milk and other products. If you already own goats you’ve discovered there is still a lot to learn about caring for them. If you are a novice, you’ll learn the basics and get a chance to network with other goat owners. Beginner and an advanced track of workshops are offered throughout the day.
Classes from which to choose include: Introduction to Meat Goats; Dairy Goats 101; Doing Your Own Fecal Testing; Making Soaps and Lotions; What Makes a Good Dairy Goat? Form Follows Function; Diseases of Goats; You Be the Judge: Goat Conformation. In addition to the experienced members of the local Dairy Goat Association, instructors include Dr. Charles Estill, OSU Extension Veterinarian and ADGA Judge Diane Heaney,
Another option is to select an afternoon class in CHEESEMAKING, a separately priced part of Goat Education Day which runs from 12:30 to 4 pm. Gianaclis Caldwell leads you through the process of making goat cheese. The fee of $50 includes two morning classes, if you choose to add them.
This event is a collaborative effort between OSU Extension Small Farms and the Rogue Valley Dairy Goat Association. A taco salad lunch is included with the event fee (both vegetarian and meat options).
Active 4-H members may ask about an additional discount option.
