This presentation covers the most common causes of tree mortality in Jackson County, including agents such as the flatheaded borer, mountain pine beetle, madrone canker, and white pine blister rust. We also discuss more chronic tree pathogens such as dwarf mistletoe, red ring rot, Armillaria, and others. Topics include utilization of dead trees, habitat features, replanting of mortality patches, and retention of snags and coarse woody debris. We’ll summarize by examining options for treating fuels.
