Latimer Fiber Arts Afterschool Program

OSU Extension Service, Tillamook County & Latimer Quilt & Textile Center have partnered to provide classes for youth.  Classes will teach basic and expanding skills for Kindergarten through 12th grade. The series of workshops will be held at Latimer Quilt & Textile Center, 2105 Wilson River Loop, Tillamook [Bus transportation (during the school year) from the Tillamook Schools to Latimer Quilt & Textile Center is available. A parent/guardian needs to contact the school  directly].

Knitting Workshop - Thursdays,

  • January 3 through February 14
  • February 21 through April 11 (no class March 28)
  • April 18 through May 30

Class participants will create several knitted projects. Novice knitters will create a knitted hat(s) using a circular loom. Loom, hook, needle, tape measure and yarn will be provided for each student and will be theirs to keep. 

Beginning/Intermediate knitters will create a soap bag, a pair of slippers and/or a scarf using knitting needles and a variety of wool.  Needles and wool will be provided for each student. 

  • Where: Latimer Quilt & Textile Center, 2015 Wilson River Loop
  • When: 3:30 to 5:00 pm [bus usually arrives by 4:00].
  • Ages: Kindergarten — 12th Grades
  • Cost: $45 for enrolled 4-H Youth* and $35 for returning participants

A snack will be provided.   Items made at these workshops will be eligible to be entered into the Fair as a 4-H Project. Sign up early, space is limited to 8 participants (low enrollment will result in the class being cancelled—deadline is 1 week prior to the date class starts).

*Youth not currently enrolled in 4-H pay a one-time enrollment fee in addition to the workshop fee, payable at time of registration ($25 for all members).  Financial need scholarships are available.
