How to Join 4-H
What You Can Do In 4-H
4-H involves its members in several projects, depending on interests and hobbies. For example: rabbits, gardening, foods, dog care & obedience, dairy goats, photography, child care, fiber arts, horses, woodworking, sheep, sewing, and outdoor cooking. Age groups (Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior) are based on the child's age as of September 1. The child will remain in their age group for the duration of the 4-H year (October 1 - September 30). Find out more about 4-H projects in Umatilla County.
Cloverbuds (Age 5-8)
For youth 5-8 years old, this program is designed to meet the development characteristics of young children. It emphasizes cooperative learning and excludes competitive events; activity based not project based learning. Due to liability issues, Cloverbuds are not allowed to participate in animal projects or shooting sports.
Youth age 9-19 belong to clubs led by volunteer leaders and take part in club activities such as community service, educational tours, and fun events. In addition to club activities, there is a wide variety of enrichment activities offered at the county, state, national and international levels.4-H Age Groups: Novice: 1st year 4-H member
Junior: age 9-11
Intermediate: age 12-14
Senior: age 15-19
4-H helps young people discover and develop life skills and set personal goals. Involvement in project areas gives members the help needed to improve specific skills and explore new ones. Activities within clubs also introduce members to the importance of helping others through community service.
If you would like to join Umatilla County 4-H please complete the 4-H Interest Form, complete it with a parent or guardian, and return it to the Pendleton Extension Office. We will do our best to locate a club to suit your interests.
Volunteers are essential to the 4-H program by sharing their resources and knowledge with our youth. The amount of time a 4-H volunteer invests can vary, depending on the role and involvement of each volunteer. Volunteers also develop new leadership skills, meet new friends, and have great adventures.
