The Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener™ program is a vibrant community of passionate volunteers dedicated to making a positive impact across Oregon. Through their commitment to sustainable gardening practices and science-based education, Master Gardener volunteers;

  • empower individuals and communities to grow their own food
  • build community relationships and resiliency
  • foster a deeper connection to the natural world.

Master Gardener volunteers generously give their time and expertise to educate, inspire, and support their neighbors. Whether they're teaching gardening techniques, managing demonstration community gardens, or providing expert advice at local events and plant clinics, Master Gardeners are building resilient, healthy communities while nurturing a love for lifelong learning.

Do you love gardening? Enjoy helping others learn? Want to advance your gardening knowledge and skills? Become a Master Gardener!

  • Learn by teaching: Provide gardening education to help your community thrive.
  • Grow your community: Meet beginner and expert gardeners in your community and help expand their knowledge and confidence.
  • Learn research-based gardening techniques: Learn the art and science of growing and caring for plants using sustainable gardening practices.
  • Gain confidence in your skills: As they see how their gardening knowledge is valued, Master Gardeners blossom and become more confident and outgoing.

We are training a new community of metro area volunteer educators in 2025! Training in the metro area (Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties) is a mix of online study modules and in-person workshops to accommodate busy schedules.
