Prescribed fire focuses on addressing the overabundance of fuels on the ground. Fuels can include grass, leaf litter, sticks, shrubs and trees. Along with weather and topography, fuel is one of the key factors that affect how a fire behaves during a prescribed burn.

Along with weather and topography, fuel is one of the key factors that affect how a fire behaves during a prescribed burn. Fuel size, shape, compactness, chemical composition, arrangement, moisture content and amount influence fire intensity, rate of spread and burn severity.
