Our roots in Southern Oregon run deep, beginning with the establishment of The Southern Oregon Experiment Station in 1911, which was developed out of necessity for the local farming community in stewardship and cultivation of the land.
Efforts to foster a sustainable environment allowed the farming industry to thrive. In 1994, OSU Extension in Jackson County made a transformative community partnership with the Southern Oregon Experiment Station based in land stewardship and sustainability. This partnership became what we now know as the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC), which brings together research and community practice.
Collectively, our work helps thousands of Jackson County residents find answers and solve problems every year. We do this by providing reliable, research-based knowledge and education that Southern Oregonians can apply to their daily lives through strengthening our local economy, sustaining its natural resources and building healthy communities, families and individuals.
