We help rural landowners and small-scale farmers to explore possibilities and solve problems. We provide research-based resources for the community, offering educational programming, technical assistance and farmer networking opportunities.
Our specialties
- Small Acreage Stewardship – Addressing land management and soil and water quality for non-commercial small acreages.
- Commercial Small Farms – Addressing high value horticulture, livestock and poultry, and alternative crop production emphasizing organic and pasture based systems and specialty and niche production. Value-added product development is often integrated with production.
- Pasture and Livestock – Addressing the needs of livestock producers by providing guidance and learning opportunities on; pasture and forage-based systems, mud and manure management, animal health, and more.
- Organic and Sustainable Agriculture – Addressing soil, pest, and crop production issues for organic and sustainable agriculture systems. Soil and water conservation, IPM, and enhancing biodiversity are emphasized. Providing guidance and training to growers in their efforts to obtain organic or food safety certifications to comply with regulations and better market their agricultural products.
