Auction - Junior Livestock

The 2024-25 Curry County Junior Livestock Auction Rules are out! The 2024-25 CCJLA Rules and Regulations have the necessary information needed to know for participation in the 2025 CCJLA. Pay close attention to all of the dates listed in the CCJLA Rules and Regulations so that deadlines are not missed.

Some highlights of the CCJLA Rules and Regulations:

  • Participants and parents are responsible for reading, understanding, and following the Curry County Junior Livestock Rules and Regulations as well as the Curry County Junior Livestock Auction Code of Ethics.
  • Fill out the Intent to Auction Form and email it back to the CCJLA by January 1. This will ensure CCJLA has your contact information for future communication.
  • Proof of possession must be emailed to [email protected] by the posted possession date using the format prescribed in the 2024-25 CCJLA Rules and Regulations. Dates can be found for each species in the 2024-25 CCJLA Rules and Regulations.

This list is not a complete list of the dates included in the 2024-25 CCJLA Rules and Regulations. For birth/hatch dates for each species consult the 2024-25 CCJLA Rules and Regulations.

  • January 1: Intent to Sell form due
  • January 1: Steer Proof of Possession Due
  • March 2: Mandatory Rule Review Meeting
  • March 16: Steer Weigh-in (Pre-fair)
  • March 26: Rabbit Projects – Doe Proof of Possession Due
  • April 15: Swine, Sheep, and Goats Proof of Possession Due
  • April 27: Swine, Sheep, and Goat Weigh-in (Pre-fair)
  • April 27: CCLA Rules Acknowledgement Form and Code of Ethics due for Rabbits, Chickens, Ducks, Geese, and Turkeys
  • July 1: Rabbit, Chicken, and Duck Market Pen Proof of Possession Due
  • July 1: Geese and Turkey Proof of Possession Due
  • July 22: Final Weigh-in for all Species
  • July 25: Mandatory Pre-Auction Meeting
  • July 26: Auction

About Our Auction

The Curry County Junior Livestock Auction (CCJLA) showcases local 4-H livestock exhibitors and their market projects. Through this program, members learn to raise quality animals and develop valuable skills. The auction provides a marketing venue for their project which is the culmination of 4-H member’s current learning experience.

The 4-H program is designed to teach club members valuable character and skills development. The animal projects teach them the meaning of responsibility, hard work and the basics of running a small business. Members invest hundreds of hours every year selecting, feeding, cleaning and handling the project animals in order to prepare them for the annual fair. At the fair, animals are then judged by livestock evaluators to determine the sale order and give feedback to the exhibitors. This allows members to use what they have learned and apply that knowledge toward next year’s project.

We encourage everyone to come to the auctions and make a purchase to help our young people meet their goals and reward them for all of their hard work commitment to becoming the leaders of tomorrow. While projects sell for a premium price, this compensates members for higher small-scale costs and allows members enough profit to invest in future projects or educational endeavors.

When you purchase an animal at the Curry County Junior Livestock Auction, you are buying more than a prize-winning animal raised by 4-H & FFA members. You are establishing yourself as a partner in helping young people in our community develop essential skills and attitudes.
