The Learning Garden - A Demonstration Garden
The Learning Garden's features teach gardening techniques to the community. It is located on the grounds surrounding the OSU Extension office in Hood River. The garden is open to the public. Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour of the gardens at any time during daylight hours. The learning garden contains multiple garden features like bioswales, container garden, compost demo, curb garden (or hellstrip), ecolawn, herb garden, Japanese Heritage Garden, native plant garden, pollinator garden with beehives, and an ornamental grass-scape.
Expenses for the Learning Garden have been funded by the Central Gorge Master Gardener Association and grants and donations from organizations, businesses, and individuals. Additional grants and donations are welcomed.
Plant Clinics
Hood River Extension Office Plant Clinics: Plant clinics are held at Hood River Extension Office on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Master Gardeners answer community questions regarding plant ID, insect and disease questions as well as best management practices.
ACE Hardware Plant Clinic: Volunteers host a plant clinic at the White Salmon ACE Hardware the first Saturday of each month and then the ACE Hardware Hood River Supply all other Saturdays each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents can bring in their plant, disease, or insect question to volunteers during this time.
Hood River County Library WaterWise Garden
Garden plots at the entryway of the Hood River County Library were designed and are maintained by Master Gardeners as an educational project for the community highlighting drought tolerant plants.
Seed to Supper
A comprehensive, 6-week beginning gardening course that offers novice, adult gardeners the basic gardening knowledge they need to successfully grow a portion of their own food on a limited budget. It was originally developed as a joint effort of Oregon Food Bank (OFB) and the Oregon State University Extension Service, Seed to Supper is offered in collaboration with host agencies around the state.
FISH Food Bank and Spirit of Grace Garden
A community garden located on the Spirit of Grace Church grounds next to the FISH Food Bank. The community garden is designed to produce highly nutritious and staple vegetables that go directly into the food bank distribution. The garden also provides educational opportunities for both food bank clients and community members interested in learning more about vegetable gardening.
