Community projects

Yellowhawk Tribal Garden

Located on the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center campus, the community garden has served as a source of education and fresh produce for the people of Mission and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation for more than a decade. Over the years, the garden has grown in both size and programming, and is now an important part of “Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country,” a healthy living initiative supported by the Centers for Disease Control for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

The garden partners with Nixyaawii Community School and the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center Senior Center to provide gardening and healthy foods education, while also supplying fresh produce to community members in need.

Hermiston Community Garden Lovin’ Spadefuls

Master Gardener volunteers care for an herb demonstration garden and several educational growing plots in this shared community space. The produce harvested here is donated to local food banks, and the garden hosts workshops and community events that help people learn, connect and grow together.

The garden does not have its own street address. It is located on the grounds of Good Shepherd Medical Plaza, where NW 11th Street meets Elm Street. For easiest access, use the entrance nearest Elm Street.

Pendleton Community Garden

This is a new garden slated to open in Spring of 2026.

Seed to Supper Classes

Seed to Supper is a free six-class course on vegetable gardening for beginners, taught by Master Gardeners and other experts and made possible with help from our community partners (Yellowhawk Tribal Center, Lovin' Spadefuls Community Garden, Umatilla County Health, and other generous local businesses and organizations). It teaches sustainable gardening knowledge and techniques that are practical and low-cost.

Each class is about 2 hours, and participants receive a textbook and other gardening goodies. The course takes you all the way from planning to harvesting and covers garden design basics, soil, seed-starting, transplanting, watering/irrigation, compost, pest control, and more.
