Prescribed fire

Prescribed fire is the controlled use of fire under specified conditions to achieve land management objectives. It is an important tool for fuels reduction, forest and range management, and ecosystem health. Practitioners use their understanding of fire behavior and fire ecology to plan and implement burns to meet specific land management objectives.

The Extension Fire Program understands the importance of using prescribed fire as a land management tool. We provide place-based education and training on the safe and effective use of prescribed fire.
