The Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener™ program educates Oregonians about the art and science of growing and caring for plants. OSU Extension Master Gardeners are volunteer educators, neighbors, and on-the-ground researchers who serve their community with solid training in science-based, sustainable gardening and a love of lifelong learning.
We strive to create a community of growing and belonging. Learn more about the program through our statewide priorities and values.
Becoming a Master Gardener means participating in a 40-hour minimum university-level horticultural training, and in your first year, volunteering as a community gardening educator for a minimum of 40 hours. Training is usually a mix of hybrid on-line modules, in-person classroom and hands-on workshops, designed to be flexible for a range of different schedules. In subsequent years, Master Gardeners participate in continuing education and a minimum of 20 hours community volunteerism.
