Grapevine Rootstock Trial

A long-term wine grape rootstock trial has been conducted at the Oregon State University (OSU) Woodhall Vineyard, located in the south Willamette Valley. The trial has been under evaluation during its early years of establishment but more recently since 2019. The vines were planted in 1997 and were maintained according to commercial standards. The vineyard has been dry-farmed (not irrigated) for more than a decade. This video shows one full block of Pinot noir grafted to 19 rootstocks and own-rooted vines during late season, just before harvest in 2022. This project is funded by the Oregon Wine Board.
