Preparedness Resources
General Resources
Oregon Coast
The earthquake will cause a tsunami of up to 100 feet in height. Residents in tsunami zones will need to evacuate to higher ground. Experts believe there is only a 20-minute window between the earthquake and the arrival of the first tsunami wave. It will take more than a year to restore coastal communities to their normal function based on damage to pipes, infrastructure, and the transportation corridors needed for recovery efforts. Keep an emergency kit with enough supplies to last a minimum of four weeks.
Western Oregon
The shaking is very strong. Damage is expected negligible in new, seismically designed buildings. Old brick buildings that haven't been reinforced will fail. Many bridges are damaged and impassable. Keep an emergency kit with enough supplies to last a minimum of two weeks.
Central and Eastern Oregon
In central Oregon, the shaking could be very strong. Damage is expected negligible in new, seismically designed buildings. Old brick buildings that haven't been reinforced will fail. Many bridges are damaged and impassable. Keep an emergency kit with enough supplies to last a minimum of two weeks.
In eastern Oregon, the shaking will be light. Though many services will be returned shortly after the earthquake, liquid fuel will likely be unavailable for weeks. Keep an emergency kit with enough supplies to last a minimum of two weeks.
